The Bike Shed Mortdale -  in for the ride!

The friendly team at The Bike Shed Mortdale have again kindly come on board as sponsors of the Oatley Park Fun Run.  $500 worth of open order vouchers will be sold off to the highest bidders prior to the fun run.  So keep watching this site for your chance to grab the vouchers at bargain prices, whilst simultaneously assisting our event charities.

Win a trip to Tasmania in 2012!

The first male and female to cross the line in the 5km Oatley Park Fun Run will win a trip to compete in the Skilled Burnie 10, Australia's premier 10km road race*.  Both events attract elite runners and it will make the competition for first even more interesting.  "This is a great incentive for the elite runners to battle it out at Oatley Park", said Race Director Jim Owens.  *Conditions apply - flights are ex Melbourne.




2012 event date announced

JORG Founder and Fun Run Director Jim Owens has confirmed that Sunday 22 April 2012 will be the date of the Oatley Park Fun Run. The date avoids clashes with other major runs and local events and is at the tail end of the school holidays.  Keep watching this site for details of the Junior JORG program for kids 5-12 which will be run in the lead up to the 2012 event, following last years success.


Scouts honour

1st Oatley Scouts were very pleased to received a donation of $1000 from Race Director Jim Owens.  Jim presented the cheque and a Certificate of Appreciation to the Scouts as thanks for their assistance in organising the event BBQ and servicing the bag drop for competitors.  Many Scouts also participated in the event.  Scout Leader "Snow" recalled that the Scout group themselves previously organised the fun run many years ago, on a different course in Oatley, and that they were pleased to be involved in the modern day equivalent.

Learning Links CEO Warren Johnson describes it as "Nice people doing nice work".  He recently accepted a cheque for $3500 from Jim Owens of the JORG Freedom Runners.  Learning Links supports kids who stuggle to learn. The funds were part of the proceeds of the Oatley Park Fun Run. On ya Jim!

With record online entries and a current weather forecast of sunny and 24C, we are set for a great day on Sunday! Entries on the day are open from 7.30am. For those that have pre-paid their entry (either online or by post) please allow sufficient time to pick up and attach your bib and timing chip.

Bring some extra change for the pancakes and sausage sandwiches available from the 1st Oatley Scouts or to bid for one of many open orders/vouchers kindly donated by The Bike Shed, Mortdale and Cena Restaurant/Pizzeria, Oatley West.

If you have a few sore muscles after the run, or just want to relax, why not visit our onsite massage therapist, Steve Hockings, situated on the main sports oval at the finish area. You can normally find Steve at Health, Herbs & Healing in Frederick Street at Oatley on Mondays and Fridays, where he practices Remedial & Sports Massage, Zen Shiatsu, Myofascial Release, Craniosacral Technique, Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, Muscle Energy Technique, Reiki & Indian Head Massage. Get your kids into running - training program for juniors

'Junior JORG' is a structured training program that teaches your kids to run their best and improves their current physical condition. It is suitable for all levels from complete beginner to the more experienced kids. It is run over a four week period and culminates with the Oatley Park Fun Run. Each 45 minute session is conducted by qualified athletics coach Jim Owens and is run at Oatley Park at 5.30pm on Wednesdays, commencing 9 March 2011. Just $20 covers all sessions and also includes fun run entry fee.  More details at www.jorg.com.au 


The Gingerbread Runners are coming to Oatley Park Fun Run!

A group of over 30 walkers and runners from the Engadine based Gingerbread Runners are looking forward to taking part in the 2011 Oatley Park Fun Run.  The group currently has three sessions a week-  Mondays at Sutherland (pictured), Wednesday nights at Sylvania Athletics Track and a Saturday morning run along Lady Carington Drive within the Royal National Park.

Group co-ordinator Jody Mielke says she and the group are thrilled to be taking part. "The group is very excited to be doing the run. Half the group are walkers and half are runners.  For some, it will be their first ever fun run!"

Judy knows the benefits of exercise, having lead five coaching programs for Cantoo. "No matter what your age, shape or fitness it is very important to look after your wellbeing. Our group enjoys running and walking at all speeds and just having a go!  You have to be in life to enjoy it and get the most out of it."

The Gingerbread Runners were founded in October 2010 and have an active group of over 30. New participants are always welcome.  To find out more, just give Jody a call on (02) 8521 6012.
